Back home

Clive and Eileen were at Heathrow to welcome us back to England yesterday after a very comfortable flight back across the pond.
It feels very strange to be back home, trying to remember where everything is and how things work and, well goodness, as for driving on the other side of the road !!!
Our garden needs our attention but it is looking really beautiful with all of the azaleas, rhododendrons and wisteria in full bloom.
Thank you for following our blog we hope you have enjoyed it as much as we have enjoyed our adventure on "The Big Road Trip"

Saturday evening/Sunday morning

Well a yummy meal at 131 Main yesterday evening and this morning it's packing, boo hoo, but all good things must come to an end and Michael is champing at the bit to get home and play some golf !!!!!!!!!!!!

We have had the most fabulous time, we did feel at first when folks said "you are really brave" where does bravery end and stupidity begin..........
That's it folks we are off to the airport at 1pm to fly up to Washington. We have not been able to check in on line for our BA flight so who knows what will happen there.
We are now planning our next adventure.............

Saturday 5th June, relaxing by the pool

It's a beautiful morning and we are having a great relaxing day by the pool.

We have checked in for our Charlotte/Washington flight so getting very near now to saying bye bye USA. Very mixed emotions.
Really heavy rain and thunder at 6pm just as we are about to head out to Blakeney for dinner.
Luckily by the time we get there the storm has passed through. Still very very hot and humid more like Florida than NC and not usual for this area although they do get very tropical type weather here.

Saturday the 4th June

Not too much to report today. We have had a very relaxing day reading and lolling by the pool.
Michael helped John assemble some patio boxes. Thunder and some spit spots of rain this afternoon.
Michael had a good work out in J & P's gym, I'm saving myself for the Wii Fit.

We are reflecting on our adventure and we shall post the findings soon.

3rd June Waxhaw

We are now nicely relaxed at J & P's. Very hot and steamy this morning but the pool is great and refreshing for cooling off.
Michael is happy as Larry helping John to re set the fish pond

Yeap, a job well done

Off down to Waxhaw for lunch at the local pub. It has only been the last few months since wine and beer could be served by the glass so the local sandwich bar is now the local pub and very nice it was too !
The railroad track that runs right through town
Taken on the bridge over the rail road. We had just missed a train going through but another is heading down the tracks, yippeeee

And the local Waxhaw water tower

Railroad and some of the older buildings if down town Waxhaw
Ummm not a train in sight
An MGB !! Saw one in Charleston and now another in Waxhaw

The bridge over the rail road.
We had a good poke about in the shops and the local pottery, (very similar designs of pottery to Grayshott Pottery) while waiting for the train that was heading down the track but stopped at the siding. They have to wait for the section to clear so another train was coming from the other direction (it's all single track) Very sadly nothing and of course as we knew would happen as soon as we left and got back home then we heard the whistle !!! Grrrrrrr !
Oh well we would just have to sit and relax by the pool !
We had a great laugh later in the evening as for the first time Michael and I had a go at Wii Fit. Ummm think we could be buying one of these !!

Wednesday 2nd June and a fond farewell to the rig

Well today's the day for the final leg of our adventure with the RV. We did pop out to the local Bojangles though for beakfast as we had not tried their biscuits and they are reported to be yummy and indeed they are. Then back onto the interstate and heading north to Stateville to RV Camping World.

Leaving John and Pat's

Charlotte skyline
Well I had a find a few water towers it was 70 miles up to Statesville ! It was really heavy traffic on the interstate, so a bit stressy, we want to get there in one piece and we're thinking no we don't want any bumps at this late stage !!! Those trucks keep whizzing past !!!

Bye bye and a sad farewell to our home on wheels
Pat kindly collects us from Statesville and we arrive, via Cracker Barrel, and more biscuits for me, back to Waxhaw. It's a very hot steamy day so a nice relax around the pool.
Total driving in the rig is 5176 miles plus the car hire mileage. What an adventure we have had, we have seen some fantasic sights met some great folk and enjoyed the company of old and new friends. More on next blog entry

On route back to John and Pat's

For the first time I forgot to take a photo of the rig at the campsite on arrival, probably as we dashed off to the pool !! Of course this morning it is raining but pic has come out ok. And so we are off for our journey back to John and Pat's. Really looking foward to seeing them again and regaling them with tales of our adventure. It is very wet this morning but a short distance down the road Michael spies blue sky so the song is Blue Sky Nothing But Blue Sky which didn't actually prove to be the case as 15 mins later it's raining again !!!! We stopped at Cracker Barrel for a late breakfast and my fix of biscuits and grits. umm yummy, grits not as good of Myra's homemade of course !

Good road home for water towers, hehe !!

We passed through Scotland County and back to Marshall so have now gone full circle on our adventure, we took the I-74 over to Mytle Beach all those weeks ago

Arrived safe and sound at Waxhaw about 2pm which was brilliant as had time to empty out the rig and move back in with J & P and to clean up the rig ready for return tomorrow. It was by theis time about 200 degrees in the rig !!

From Virginia Beach to Smithfield NC 31st May

Already hot at 0700 and a beautiful sky. Listening to Tony Blackburn live on Radio 2 and a countdown of the best selling records of the 1960's while packing up ready to move on down the coast and then inland from the ocean along US17 south. We had a really good journey most of it very pretty rural farmland and 2 lane highway with light traffic.
Welcome back to North Carolina

Arrived at Smithfield NC and our last camp site. Very hot and their swimming pool is open so a welcome swim. It feels really strange that this will be our last night in our temporary home and although we have had a fabulous time we are really looking forward to getting back to John and Pat's tomorrow.
We finished listening to the 60's countdown while cooking the BBQ chicken, just in time as it happens as we get a heavy rain shower but still very warm.

Sunday 30th and a day at the beach

Hey I've cheated and took these pics 2 days ago. We have just had a lazy day at the beach, we even took the shuttle bus rather than cycle !!! It was really hot hot hot and sunny. Needless to say as it's a holiday weekend the beacj was not this empty but it's a big big beach and there was plenty of room. Water was lovely, it's not really a swiming beach as the surf is too strong and high but great for playing and cooling off and the surfers and body boarders love it.
We now have a storm but hopefully it will clear again for folks for holiday Monday.
We are off tomorrow to Smithfield North Carolina en route to John and Pat's. Really looking forward to seeing them again.
We seem to be having a problem with our emails. We can't pick up any incoming on either address this evening, so apologies if we have not replied.
