The Covered Bridges of Indiana 13th May

Off to Parke County and the covered bridges. We have had an interest in these since reading "The Bridges of Madison County" and have now discovered that this county of Indiana has 39. They say that Iowa where the book is based only has 5.
Portland Mills Bridge (and our hire car). This bridge was built in 1856. All of the bridges in this area were built between 1856 and 1907. Those in Parke County were all but one built to the Burr Arch Design by J A Britton or J J Daniels

2 water towers in a tiny town called Marshall
The Visitors Centre in Rockville (county capital) an old railroad depot. Lots of info and a route map of the bridges

This one for Alan S, a side shot of Michael !
They are really amazing and built to protect the timbers of the actual bridge from bad weather

Some bridges are still drive through but others like this one are bypassed
Bridgeton Bridge, waterfall and working mill
Bridgeton and above. It was rebuilt in 2006 after being destroyed by arson in 2005
Bridgeton Mill, we stopped here for a yummy bowl of ice cream
Part of the Bridgeton historical area
