Fancy Gap to Natural Bridge Friday 7th May
Back up onto the Parkway at Fancy Gap on another beautiful blue sky morning. First stop is Mabry Mill and some history of the mill and area
Mabry Mill
The drive this morning has in some ways been like driving through the countryside at home. It is very pretty and scenic and even though we are still at an elevation of approx 3000 feet it is gentle hills and flat fertile areas with homesteads and farms
Coffee and a spot of "viewing"
Much of the road along this stretch has lovely orange azaleas just coming into bloom. There are lots of rhododendrons on this stretch also which will be fabulous in June

An overlook just outside of Roanoke and time for lunch and a sit and enjoy the view and the peace and quiet
Had to take this as it's a railroad overlook !

This last part of our journey on the Blue Ridge is very much a "ridge" as both sides have steep drops rather than one side or the other. There were spectacular views of the valleys and mountains

Hi M&S, great to talk to you yesterday via Skype even tho the quality was crap.
ReplyDeleteWe took Marion's Mum & Dad to stay at the Peaks of Otter when they visited us while we were in Charlotte, once again brings back many happy memories from 24 years ago. I particularly remeber loads of thistles with numerous multi coloured butterflies on them! How sad! Tx
It really is a beautiful area and this time of year so many wild flowers and blossom. Have seen lots of butterflies too. Really glad it has taken you on a lovely trip down memory lane. I have taken loads of photos but it's the memories that count. S x
